About Dr. Clawson

Dr. Clawson is a board-certified clinical neuropsychologist (see https://abpp.org/ for more information about board certification) and licensed psychologist who specializes in pediatric neuropsychology. She has worked in both inpatient and outpatient settings with youth who have medical and neurodevelopmental diagnoses.

 

Education and Professional Training

  • Undergraduate: B.S. in psychology at Brigham Young University

  • Graduate: Ph.D. in clinical psychology at Brigham Young University, emphasis in neuropsychology

  • Clinical Psychology Internship: University of Washington in behavioral medicine and neuropsychology

  • Postdoctoral Fellowship: Kennedy Krieger Institute/Johns Hopkins Medicine focused on pediatric neuropsychology

Professional Career

Following her fellowship, Dr. Clawson began working in the Neuropsychology Department at Children’s National Hospital. She assessed youth through medical clinics and the Center for Autism. Dr. Clawson also developed expertise in neurodiversity and gender diversity in the Gender and Autism Program, one of the first clinics in the United States specifically dedicated to this co-occurrence.

 

Dr. Clawson continues to provide care remotely through the Gender and Autism Program at Children’s National. She has also worked in private practice while her family has moved for her spouse’s military commitments.

 

Research

Dr. Clawson is an assistant professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Health and of Pediatrics at George Washington University. She is an active researcher, collaborating on multiple grant funded projects. Her research is focused on cognitive and neural development in autism, with recent work on clinical needs and supports for gender diverse autistic youth. 

 

Dr. Clawson has also been involved in neurodiversity initiatives through the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH). She has co-facilitated international and national trainings through the Global Education Institute.

 

 

 

Life Outside Work

Dr. Clawson most enjoys spending time with her husband and two children. She loves the outdoors and is a runner, hiker, skier, and rock climber.
